The present invention is to obtain images by making different exposures for a region including a headlight and a region including a license plate, and comprises: an image sensor part for obtaining images with different exposure values in respective predetermined regions of interest; an image processing part for receiving the images with different exposure values obtained from the image sensor part and composing the images; and a controlling part for controlling the image sensor part to obtain images with different exposure values from sensors corresponding to the predetermined regions of interest and for controlling the image processing part to receive the images with different exposure values in the respective predetermined regions of interest and compose the images. An image photographing apparatus for a vehicle using exposure control and a method therefor according to the present invention have the effect of allowing a vehicle license plate to be easily recognized by detecting headlight from a first region of interest of a rear camera, dividing a region including the headlight and a region between headlights, obtaining an image exposed for a relatively short period of time in the region including the headlight, obtaining an image exposed for a relatively long period of time in the region between the headlights, and composing the short exposure image and the long exposure image. |
