PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical semiconductor fine particle which exhibits satisfactory photocatalytic performance, hardly deteriorates a medium such as an organic binder and has excellent weather resistance. SOLUTION: The optical semiconductor fine particle is covered with a porous silica film having pores of 0.5-10 nm pore diameter and has photocatalytic activity. A method for manufacturing such the optical semiconductor fine particle comprises the steps of: agitating a solution containing a surfactant, water, a water-soluble organic solvent, the optical semiconductor fine particle and alkoxysilane at the least at≤20°C to form a film on the surface of the optical semiconductor fine particle; and firing the film-covered optical semiconductor fine particle to form the porous silica film. A coating composition obtained by dispersing the optical semiconductor fine particle in the organic binder and a coating film obtained from the coating composition are provided.
