PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical switching device which is based on a new principle having never been proposed yet, and with which intensity of output light is varied in an analog fashion on a predetermined angular position. SOLUTION: The optical switching device has: a thermal lens effect element 4 which is equipped with a light absorption film having a wavelength band which exhibits a transmission property to light source light 2 being continuous light, and exhibits an absorption property to signal light 3 having a wavelength different from that of the light source light 2, and which exhibits a thermal lens effect based on a distribution of refractive indexes reversibly generated due to temperature rise produced on a region where the signal light 3 has been absorbed and on its peripheral region; a light signal input section 5 to receive the light source light 2 and the signal light 3 keeping a definite distance in between; and a light signal output section 7 having a pinhole 6, and varies intensity of output light from the pinhole 6 of the light signal output section 7 by varying intensity of the incident signal light 3 and changing a profile of output intensity distribution relative to angular positions of the light source light 2 with the thermal lens effect of the thermal lens effect element 4.
