An external skin composition having hexagonal gel phase is provided to protect and moisturize various kinds of the skins showing damaged skin barrier function and various skin types by forming a structure similar to the lamella structure in the skin. An external skin composition having hexagonal gel phase comprises 0.05-10 wt.% of an intercellular lipid ingredient selected from ceramide, fatty acid and cholesterol or its derivatives, and 0.05-25 wt.% of an emulsifier selected from sorbitan stearate and sucrose cocoate, wherein the ceramide is selected from natural ceramide-III represented by the formula(1) or ceramide analogues represented by the formulae(2) to (5) in which R1 and R2 are each independently C6-C22 linear or branched alkyl group, the cholesterol derivative is cholesterol sulfate or phytosterol and the fatty acid is palmitic acid, cetic acid, stearic acid or arachidonic acid.
