摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly inspect all fuel rods on whether their all surfaces are contaminated or not without requiring any hands when carrying out the fuel rods from a first-kind controlled area to a second-kind controlled area, while also dispensing with a stock yard. SOLUTION: This automatic inspection device for surface contamination density of fuel rods comprises a carrier, a plurality ofα-ray measuring parts, and a contamination density evaluation part. The carrier carries the fuel rods lengthwise thereof with the fuel rods mounted on a roller device whose rotation is controlled. The plurality ofα-ray measuring parts are disposed on a plurality of places on the carrier to measureαrays emitted from the surfaces of the fuel rods, and a plurality ofα-ray sensors are disposed so that their detection ends form a cylinder through whose inner hole the fuel rods are to pass. Necessaryα-ray measurement is performed when the fuel rods pass therethrough and when they do not pass. The evaluation part evaluates the density of contamination caused by nuclear fissile material on fuel rod surfaces according to a prescribed procedure based on measurement values at the time of passage of the fuel rods and at the time of non-passage thereof from at least one of the measuring parts.
