A sealing arrangement comprises first and second components 2, 2 having grooves facing each other, a seal 12 extending between the components and having opposite edges disposed in said respective grooves, the seal comprising a web 14 having recesses 20 at said opposite edges, wherein each recess accommodates a compressible sealing element 16. The sealing element may be braided bundled yam which comprises predominantly amorphous silica, and be able to withstand temperatures of 900 degrees Celsius. The sealing elements which could have a circular cross-section or a flat surface may have cooperating shapes so as to hold it within the recess, and may even be bonded to it. The web 14 may be made from strip steel. When installed, the sealing element has an exposed surface which directly contacts the groove. The first and second components are ideally adjacent guide vane segments in a gas turbine engine. |
