476,305. Cycle - racing apparatus. SYDNEY, S. June 3, 1936, No. 15529. [Classes 132 (i) and 132 (ii)] Cycle racing is simulated by stationary pedaldriven machines with speed-indicating mechanism. A worm .shaft driven by each pedal axle drives its pointer and automatic timecontrolled de-clutching means are provided to interrupt the connection. A number of shafts 12, Fig. 1, each driven by a pedal axle drive pointers 24 when piriions 17 on sleeves 16 are engaged with toothed wheels 23. A clockdriven disc 31, with a pointer 33, is started when a face cam 27 is manually rotated to put pinions 17 and 23 in mesh by means of springs 18, and, after one revolution, operates a trip to return the cam and disengage the pointers. In another embodiment, a shaft 42, Fig. 4, driven from a bicycle, is clutched to a shaft 45 by movement of a lever 46, preferably controlled by coin-freed mechanism. The shaft 45 is mounted in a sliding bearing 48 whereby the worm gear 54, 52 may be disengaged to free the pointer spindle 53 by means of a timecontrolled lever 50. If wheel 52 completes a revolution before the lever 50 is actuated, a pin 55 thereon engages a hook 56 to disengage clutch members 43, 44.
