PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat-surface discharge lamp, the efficiency of which can be improved by relaxing shadow caused by posts, while being capable of being manufactured using a simple process. SOLUTION: Since non-transparent rear side post parts 28 out of the posts 20 are positioned being separated from the front plate 14 inner faces, non-transparent posts are contacted with the front plate 14 inner faces on a light emission side and the shadows caused by it are suppressed or become weak. Thus, because a diffusion plate of which diffusion effect is lower as compared with conventional ones is used for alleviating unevenness caused by the shadow or the like, or the need for the diffusion plate can be eliminated, and the efficiency of the flat discharge lamp 10 is improved, when light extraction efficiency is enhanced.
