A controller of an electric power steering device constituted to control a motor for giving a steering assist power to a steering mechanical according to the current value of the motor and a current control value computed from a steering assist command value computed according to the steering torque generated in the steering shaft. The controller has first and second differentiation compensators to which the steering torque is inputted. The sampling period of the second differentiation compensator is longer than that of the first one. Therefore, by adding the outputs of the first and second differentiation compensators to the steering assist command value, high-performance control is possible irrespective of the steering speed.
