PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quality controlling method for free-piston Stirling engines, which permits variations in mechanical properties of parts as factors to determine the frequencies of oscillation of individual engines, and realizes the reduction in production cost. SOLUTION: In a free-piston Stirling engine 10 comprising an oscillation power source 3 for activation which supplies alternating current, which can be activated by fixing a permanent magnet 20 to an output piston 15, fixing a magnet coil 22 to the side of a casing 11, and distributing alternating current to the magnet coil 22, thereby inducing periodic movement of the output piston 15, a generating coil 23 is provided on the side of the casing 11, wherein the oscillating frequency of the oscillation power source 3 for activation is changed, the load on the generating coil 23 is made constant to detect the voltage outputted to the generating coil 23, the oscillating frequency, when the voltage value detected is judged to be the maximum value or near the maximum value, is determined as an optimum oscillating frequency intrinsic to individual free-piston Stirling engines 10, and the oscillating frequency of the oscillation power source 3 for activation is adjusted to the optimum oscillating frequency.
