PURPOSE:To record an FM video signal free from the influence of tertiary distortion by shifting a chrominance signal and a luminance signal in the transverse direction of a track and recording them independently. CONSTITUTION:The luminance signal to which relative phase relation with the chrominance signal C is constant regardless of its position on a track after being subjected to a variable delay line 14 to which delay time is controlled corresponding to a position on the track of a magnetic recording disk via a head position detection circuit 18 and a controller 20, is modulated by an FM modulation circuit 12. In the meantime, a signal C is modulated by an FM modulation circuit 10. And both FM modulation outputs above mentioned are shifted in the transverse direction of a track by a composite head 26, and recorded independently of each other. Therefore, different from a case both FM modulation outputs are mixed and recorded by a single head, an FM video signal recording in which the occurrences of beat component due to the mixing and the influence of tertiary distortion are eliminated can be executed.
