PURPOSE:To obtain a recording medium by recording signals to an expandable or contractable substrate or thin film formed thereon. CONSTITUTION:A TeC film 2 is provided by a magnetron sputtering method on a thermal shrinkage type polyethylene film 1 to prepare a tape-shaped recording carrier 3. The carrier 3 is run and a recording beam 5 is converged onto the surface of the carrier through an optical system 4. Helical scanning is executed by selecting the relative speed of the optical head and the tape to form bits 6. The carrier 3 is then heat-treated at 120 deg.C to shrink the same to 2/3. The signals are diminished and the recording of the signals corresponding to the signal of a high-frequency band and having less distortions is permitted; in addition, the recording density is improved according to this constitution. Reproduction is executable with substantially no crosstalks between adjacent tracks by expansion of the substrate after recording. A substantially distortion- free high-frequency signal is obtd. when helical scanning is executed by converging a reproducing beam 9 onto the carrier. |
