PICTURE MOVEMENT DETECTOR

PURPOSE:To obtain a motion vector with finer accuracy than a line interval and a sampling interval of an input video signal by using a picture element interpolation and magnification means to form an interpolation picture element, thereby obtaining a magnified interpolation signal being the result of magnifying part of the interpolated video signal. CONSTITUTION:An interpolation and magnification circuit 11 forms an interpolation picture element between vertical lines and between picture elements of horizontal sampling interval, sets plural areas magnifying part of the interpolation video signal and outputs the result as the magnified interpolation signal. A latch circuit 12 latches picture information of a representative point of each area being divisions of the magnified interpolation signal in the timing of a latch pulse T1. A correlation device 17 applies correlation calculation between picture information of the representative point of one preceding field stored in the latch circuit 16 and each picture element in the area of the corresponding existing field, the result is accumulated by an accumulator 18 and a motion vector generating circuit 19 outputs final motion vector information taking the direction of the motion vector as parallel moving direction of the entire pattern to an output section 20.
