The invention relates to an absorbent resin, obtained by condensation of an aromatic amine, optionally a phenol compound, and formaldehyde or acetaldehyde in a molar ratio of 1:0-1.5:2-4, in the presence of a strong inorganic acid and in the absence of metal salts, and to a method of preparing such an absorbent resin, in which the aromatic amine, the phenol compound, the strong acid and water are mixed, in particular in a molar ratio of 1:0.65-1.2:0.8-1.2:10-15, and the mixture obtained is allowed to react with, in particular, 2.5-3.5 mol of formaldehyde per mole of aromatic amine.
