<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode assembly and a lithium secondary battery containing the same. <P>SOLUTION: In the lithium secondary battery containing an electrode assembly containing a positive electrode containing a positive electrode active material layer, a negative electrode containing a negative electrode active material layer and a separator separating the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and an electrolyte, the negative electrode active material layer contains a metal material which can make an alloy with lithium, and the separator contains a porous membrane composed of a combination of a ceramic material with a binder, and a thickness of the porous membrane is 7 to 20% of a thickness of the negative electrode active material layer.
