The method involves determining temperature loss of an exhaust, and determining whether it fulfills the activation condition of the monitoring. The air and fuel path actuators are activated, and the exhaust gas temperature downstream of the exhaust gas aftertreatment unit is estimated. The feasibility of the adjustment of the ageing factors is determined.
