RECOMBINANT VIRAL VECTORS AND VACCINE COMPOSITION FOR LEISHMANIASIS

This invention describes the use of recombinant viral vectors expressing Leishmania A2 antigen and vaccine compositions that are useful as vaccines against LEISHMANIASIS. The invention reveals a prime-boost vaccination method that uses adenoviral and poxviral vectors for the purpose of vaccination of mammals against LEISHMANIASIS. This method allows the serological distinction between vaccinated or infected individuals when they are tested by conventional assays based on ELISA or immune-fluorescence techniques that use antigens directed against the promastigote forms of Leishmania.
