PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric double layer capacitor without impairing electric insulation of an insulating spacer. SOLUTION: The electric double layer capacitor includes: a cell 13 including a pair of electrodes 11 sandwiching a separator 10 therebetween; upper and lower collector electrode plates 16 and 17 sandwiching, after a plurality of the cells 13 are stacked, the cells from both the upper and lower surfaces; upper and lower insulating plates 18 and 19 sandwiching the upper and lower collector electrode plates 16 and 17 from both the upper and lower surfaces; top and bottom end plates 20 and 21 sandwiching the upper and lower insulating plates 18 and 19 from both the upper and lower surfaces; the insulating spacer 24 disposed between the top and bottom end plates 20 and 21; fastening screws 22 and 23 penetrating the top and bottom end plates 20 and 21 and joined to the insulating spacer 24; and insulating members 25 and 26 covering exposed parts of the fastening screws 22 and 23 located between the top and bottom end plates 20 and 21 and having elasticity.
