PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering device hardly damaging a switch contact and hardly shortening its lifetime when turning on/off a switch means to turn on/turn off the power supply even when having a boosting circuit. SOLUTION: The electric power steering device comprises a boosting circuit 8 for boosting the output voltage of an on-vehicle battery Ba, a motor 18 for steering assistance which is driven by a driving circuit 13 to which the voltage boosted by the boosting circuit 8 is applied, and a switch means 15a connected between the boosting circuit 8 and the driving circuit 13. The motor 18 is drive-controlled based on the detected steering torque (10) applied to a steering member (not shown), and the switch means 15a turns on/turns off the power supply to the driving circuit 13.
