An image forming apparatus and a method thereof are provided to set a variable critical value considering a color difference and a brightness difference between blocks, thereby accurately processing a background color on the entire document. An image scanner(100) comprises a fluorescent lamp and an image sensor. The image scanner provides scan data of the image sensor to an image processing device(200). The image processing device analyzes a histogram by a block unit with regard to the scan data provided from the image scanner. The image processing device compensates for the background data according to the analysis result to generate a scan image. A storage unit(300) stores the scan image generated by the image processing device. A print output unit(400) prints and outputs a print medium by directly receiving the scan image.
