A method for cleaning a lamp-glass tube used in a fluorescent lamp is provided to reduce the shrinkage of a tube in the following heating process which may be caused by the reaction between a glass surface and a cleaning medium. A glass tube is washed by an aqueous cleaning medium of a neutral or weakly alkaline pH value(7 to 12 Ph). In the cleaning process, the washing temperature is within the range of 0°C to 90°C, preferably about the range of 20°C to 80°C. The pH value is regularly maintained during the whole cleaning process by performing the continued control operation. Against the rising and dropping of the pH value, changed during the cleaning process, the weak acid or base is added.
