PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information management system where user can keep content files locally and communication environment does not need to be suited to transmitting large amount of data without contravening the security policy of an organization even if a management device is located outside the organization.

SOLUTION: Only the display devices 21a and 21b store content files and a management device 11 stores file management information. The content files are managed using the file management information. The management device 11 updates the management information according to an instruction from communication equipment, and management information to be exchanged is encrypted.
