[Classes 18 and 66] Paper, wood-pulp &c. bottles, cups or containers or tubular bodies therefore of square rectangular or triangular section for milk, cream, ice-cream &c. are formed on mandrels from flat scored or unscored blanks by means of mandrels 10, 11, Fig. 1, and folders, shown in Fig. 5, mounted adjacent thereto so as to be rotatable therewith, the folding of the blank round the mandrel taking place in stages. The blank is introduced at position 10 of the mandrel; at position 11 roller 46, Figs. 1 and 5 tilts the folder to clamp section 52a, Fig. 6, of the blank between plate 25, the mandrel, and strips 55 and plate 105 initiates the folding of the sides and base ; while moving to position 12, plates 26, 27 are actuated by ramps to press sections 52b, 52c of the blank against opposite sides of the mandrel; by the time position 12 is reached flaps 33, 34 have been pressed against the fourth side of the container by roller 72, and toggle levers 69 pressing inwards auxiliary flaps at the lower ends of the main flaps so that the blank is pressed to cause adhesion of overlapping edges. At position 13 the parts are beyond the control of the ramps and cam 66 so that the folder opens out and is tilted away from the mandrel. A radially movable pusher 110 is actuated at position 14 through elements 112, 116, 120 to eject the container from the mandrel, whereafter it is waxed or proofed. |
