PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for suppressing growth of a fatigue crack capable of suppressing the growth of the large fatigue crack formed in a large-scale metal structure by a simple and practical construction method. SOLUTION: This method for suppressing the growth of the fatigue crack suppresses the growth of the fatigue crack 2 formed in the structure 1. In the method, the structure, in which the fatigue crack is formed, is held in a state in which maximum stress acting during the operation of the structure is imposed on the fatigue crack, so that the fatigue crack can be made open. Subsequently, a crack-opening-width maintaining implement 5 is inserted into the opening so as to maintain the opening width of the fatigue crack as-is even after eliminating the maximum stress.
