PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetoresistive element having a high MR change rate, a magnetic head assembly, and a magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus.SOLUTION: The magnetoresistive element includes: a magnetization fixed layer 5; a magnetization free layer 7; a nonmagnetic layer 6 provided between the magnetization fixed layer 5 and the magnetization free layer 7; a first metal layer 4 provided on a side of the magnetization free layer 7, the nonmagnetic layer 6 being provided on the opposite side of the magnetization free layer, and includes Au; a second metal layer 3 provided on a side of the first metal layer 4, the magnetization free layer 7 being provided on the opposite side of the first metal layer, and includes a CuNi alloy; a first electrode 2 provided on a side of the second metal layer 3, the first metal layer 4 being provided on the opposite side of the second metal layer; and a second electrode 8 provided on a side of the magnetization fixed layer 5, the nonmagnetic layer 6 being provided on the opposite side of the magnetization fixed layer. In the magnetoresistive element, one of the magnetization fixed layer 5 and the magnetization free layer 7 includes a half metal, and a current flows from the first electrode 2 toward the second electrode 8. |
