The present invention relates to a backlight unit for lateral dimming capable of improving the structure of a prism sheet arranged on the upper side of a light guide plate, and providing a wide viewing angle. The backlight unit of the present invention includes: a plate-shaped light guide plate; an LED light source arranged on the side of the light guide plate; a prism sheet which comprises downward prism pattern formed on the lower side of a base sheet in a direction vertical to the progressing direction of light, and an embossed lens pattern formed on the upper side of the base sheet. In the present invention, a lens pattern is further formed on the upper side of a prism sheet, thereby obtaining high brightness and improving the viewing angle of a display device having a wide half power angle at the same time. |
