1. A method comprises:
receiving, by a set of storage units of a dispersed storage network (DSN), a plurality of read requests for encoded data slices corresponding to particular content data, wherein the particular content data is dispersed storage error encoded to produce a plurality of sets of encoded data slices, wherein each storage unit of the set of storage units stores an encoded data slice from each of at least some of the plurality of encoded data slices; detecting, by a first storage unit of the set of storage units, that a corresponding portion of the plurality of read requests exceeds a heavy load condition for the first storage unit, wherein the first storage unit stores a first encoded data slice from the each of at least some of the plurality of encoded data slices as a first group of encoded data slices; with the corresponding portion of the plurality of read requests exceeding the heavy load condition for the first storage unit:
identifying, by the first storage unit, a first alternative storage unit of the DSN;sending, by the first storage unit, a copy of the first group of encoded data slices to the first alternative storage unit;redirecting, by the first storage unit, some of the corresponding portion of the plurality of read requests to the first alternative storage unit for processing; andprocessing, by the first storage unit, remaining read requests of the corresponding portion of the plurality of read requests. |
