561,292. Electric torches. HYMAN, H. Jan. 12, 1942, No. 448. Convention date, Feb. 8, 1941. [Class 39 (ii)] A torch with a swivelling lampcarrying head 54 comprises an insulating battery casing 24 closed at its lower end by a spring retaining cap 73 and carrying at its upper end a spring plunger contact 126 in electrical connection with the positive pole of the battery and engaging a segmental contact 128 sunk into the surface of the spherical insulating head. This rubbing contact is wholly enclosed by a casing 46 which fits on the end of the battery casing, is shaped to fit closely to the head in all positions thereof, and is secured to the casing by two standards 42 between which the head itself takes trunnion-like bearings on hollow rivets 58 which are expanded internally to give a friction-tight pivot. The lamp is carried by a holder 63 and its centre contact is connected through the spring 132 with the contact segment. The other contact of the lamp is connected through the holder casing and the spring arms 98 to the rivets and so to the standards. One of the standards 42 is connected with the casing of a slide-and-press switch 100, the contacts of which may be brought into permanent or intermittent engagement with contact rivets in connection with a recessed connector strip 93 inside the battery casing and in electrical connection with the negative pole of the battery. A folding ring 81 is mounted in the end of the cap for suspending the lamp. Specification 561,320 is referred to. |
