[Problem] To suggest a method and an apparatus for processing information which are capable of avoiding a decrease in the degree of parallelism of processing and effectively preventing a decrease in the data processing capability of the entire apparatus. [Solution] The apparatus for processing information has a first mode of operation in which one command serves to process part or all of a plurality of pieces of data in parallel and a second mode of operation in which a plurality of pieces of data are processed in parallel in response to a command for each piece of data. The apparatus is provided with a command parsing unit which parses a command stored in an instruction memory and then creates a first microcode corresponding to the command, and a plurality of command processing units each for executing processing corresponding to the first microcode transmitted from the command parsing unit during the first mode of operation. Each of the command processing units holds in advance all the respective second microcodes to be processed during the second mode of operation, switches the mode of operation to the second mode of operation in response to a direction from the command parsing unit, and executes different processing corresponding to the respective second microcodes that are held. |
