A safety control system is provided with a plurality of units connected in such a way as to enable direct mutual data transmission via a network. Each of the units is provided with a state detector that detects a device operation state and outputs relevant state data, and a safety control appliance connected to the network. The safety control appliance determines whether the device operation state is abnormal on the basis of the state data and a determination reference. If the result of the determination indicates abnormality, the safety control appliance stops operation of the device, and transmits monitoring result data indicating the determination result to another designated unit directly via the network. The safety control appliance also stops the operation of the device if the monitoring result data received via the network indicates abnormality.
