PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which allows for acquisition of excellent reading results by suppressing deformation of an original platen.SOLUTION: An image reader includes a platen for placing an original, a closing body including a drive mechanism capable of opening and closing the platen, and exhibiting a predetermined function in the closed state, and an original cover provided in the closing body, and holding the original placed on the platen while the closing body is closed. The original cover is a laminate composed by laminating a plurality of members in the thickness direction of the original, and a first region of the laminate including the lower region of the drive mechanism is thinner in the central region or a region close thereto than the end region, at least in a direction of one side constituting four sides of the platen. |
