<p>The invention provides an imge forming apparatus which can print data beyond a printing range into a row even if the resolution is low, and an image forming method. The image forming apparatus includes a conveyance mechanism for conveying sheets, a print head has print needles arranged in an array, an ink ribbon configured between the print head and the sheets, a print head drive mechanism which enables the print head to do reciprocating movement in the row direction, and a control unit which, according to the received data and a printable character width in on row, determines a compression ratio by level, and performs compression of a print width through logical operation according to column units of points on the basis of the compression ratio, thereby forming an image.</p> |
