Trpv1 antagonists including dihydroxy substituent and uses thereof

Provided are N-(benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-4-{ 5-[1,2-dihydroxyethyl]-3-halo/trifluoromethylpyridin-2-yl} -piperazin-1-yl-carboxamide derivative compounds of the general formula (I), wherein the variables are as defined in the specification. An example of the compounds is (5)-4-{ 5-[(5)-1,2-Dihydroxyethyl]-3-fluoropyridin-2-y1)-N-(5-fluorobenzo[d]thiazol-2-y1)- 2-methylpiperazine-1-carboxamide. The compounds are antagonists of Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 1 (TRPV1). The compounds may be useful in the treatment of pain, osteoarthritis, urinary incontinence, ulcers, inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
