The present application relates to a reconfigurable computing system (50) which may be used, for example, in network interface cards associated with servers in a data centre, the reconfigurable network interface system comprising: a programmable electronic device (52) which includes a plurality of programmable functional units, wherein the plurality of programmable functional units comprises one or more programmable electrical functional units and one or more programmable optical functional units; and a controller (54), wherein the programmable electronic device is operative to program or reprogram at least one of the plurality of programmable functional units in accordance with configuration information received from the controller in order to implement desired functionality of the reconfigurable computing system.
