An air-drying composition comprises (1) a benzene-soluble polymeric organosilicon compound having an average of 0.9 to 1.5 monovalent hydrocarbon radicals and 0.1 to 1.5 alkoxy groups per silicon atom and in which at least a major proportion of the polymer linkages are -SiOSilinkages, any remaining polymer linkages being -SiSi- and/or -SiRSi-linkages where R is a divalent hydrocarbon radical; and (2) from 0.02 to 1.5 per cent by weight of (1) of a benzene-soluble titanium ester of an aliphatic alcohol containing less than 20 carbon atoms. Siloxane radicals specified are methoxy, isopropoxy, octadecyloxy, methyl, ethyl, octadecyl, allyl, vinyl, cyclohexyl, cyclohexenyl, phenyl, tolyl, benzyl and xenyl. Titanium compounds specified are the esters of ethyl, allyl, isopropyl, cyclohexyl, octyl and octadecyl alcohols, ethylene, propylene, octylene, diethylene, tripropylene and tetraethylene glycols and glycerine, and may be the orthoesters or partially hydrolysed esters containing -Ti.O.Ti- or -Ti.ORO.Tilinkages. The two components may be mixed in any manner, but preferably in a solvent such as benzene, toluene, xylene or a petroleum hydrocarbon solvent. Non-alkoxylated organosilicon compounds and paint pigments and additives may be added. In examples the organosilicon compound is (1,2) the mixture obtained by reacting methyl chloride with silicon, with subsequent treatment with (1) methanol and (2) isopropanol, and (3) the copolymer containing monophenyl-, monovinyl- and monomethyl-siloxane units and 0.5 ethoxy groups per Si atom. The compositions may be used for coating ceramic electrical insulators and other surfaces.
