[Also in Group XVIII] In a closing device for a door or other closure for hermetically sealing an opening 21 in a pressure chamber, locking abutments 14, Fig. 3, spaced around the opening are adapted to be engaged by locking-bars 5, 5a on the door by the rotation of a hand wheel C which actuates intermediate spur gearing 8, 8a, 9 and 10. Gear-wheels 8, 8a have spiral grooves 7 therein engaged by projections 6 on plates 4 to which the locking-bars 5 are secured. Top and bottom locking-bars 5a also have projections 6 engaging the grooves 7. The outer faces of the locking-bars 5, 5a are bevelled to co-operate with correspondingly bevelled adjustable blocks disposed in the locking abutments 14. In a modification the spur gearing is replaced by worm gearing. |
