A method and system of decoding a stereo multiplex signal that includes a sum signal (L+R) and a difference signal (L-R) of a left stereo signal (L) and a right stereo signal (R) are disclosed. The method and system comprise converting the stereo multiplex signal into the sum signal (L+R) and the difference signal (L-R); calculating first and second transfer functions from the sum signal (L+R) and the difference signal (L-R); filtering the sum signal (L+R) according to the first transfer function to provide the left stereo signal (L); and filtering the sum signal (L+R) according to the second transfer function to provide the right stereo signal (R).
