<p>A liquid coating composition comprises as an essential constituent a polymer of methyl methacrylate having a relative viscosity of about 1.117-1.196, cellulose acetate butyrate having a viscosity of about 0.1-2.0 seconds, such that the weight ratio of cellulose acetate butyrate to polymer of methyl methacrylate is between 15:85 and 75:25 and a solvent for said polymer and cellulose acetate butyrate. "A polymer of methyl methacrylate" covers not only monopolymers of methyl methacrylate itself but also copolymers with minor amounts of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, acrylic acid esters (methyl to butyl) methacrylic acid esters (ethyl to butyl), vinyl acetate, acrylonitrile or styrene. Said liquid coating composition may contain additionally pigments, e.g. iron blues, organic reds and maroons, silica, talc, china clay and metallic oxides, silicates, chromates, sulphides and sulphates, or plasticisers, e.g. benzyl butyl phthalate, dibutyl phthalate, triphenyl phosphate, 2 - ethylbenzyl benzyl phthalate, dicyclobenzyl phthalate, diallyl phthalate, dibenzyl phthalate, butyl cyclohexyl phthalate, mixed benzoic acid and fatty oil acid esters of pentaerythritol, the dibenzoate of an hydroxy terminated polymer of propyleneglycoladipate diethylene glycol dibenzoate, tetrabutyltriodisuccinate, butyl phthalyl butyl glycolate, acetyl tributyl citrate, dibenzyl sebacate, tricresyl phosphate, toluene ethyl sulphonamide, di-2-ethyl benzy ester of the diphthalate of hexamethylene glycol and di-(methylcyclohexyl) phthalate, or volatile solvents, e.g. toluene, xylene, butylacetate, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, and butylalcohol, or modifying agents, e.g. soya, lecithin, silicone fluids, triethanolamine, fatty oil acids and glyceride oil derivatives. Examples are given.</p> |
