<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of performing appropriate image formation on both sides of an image-formed medium, and to provide a control method for the image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: An image reading means Si reads an image on a first side of the image-formed medium on which an image including a mark has been formed by an image forming means 2. A detection means 51 detects the mark from image data read by the image reading means Si. A calculation means 51 calculates degree of contraction caused on the image-formed medium by image formation by the image forming means 2 according to variation amount of a position of the mark detected by the detection means Si and a position of the mark in the image formed on the first side. A correction means 51 corrects an image formed on a second side of the image-formed medium based on the degree of contraction calculated by the calculation means 51.
