[Also in Groups XXXI and XXXIV] In a motor vehicle (see Group XXXI) a differential gear 10 housed in a casing 20 of a variable speed gear drives output shafts 11F, 11R connected to front and rear axles. Each output shaft 11F, 11R carries a free-wheel device 12F or 12R forming a one-way clutch and comprising an inner running member 36 splined to the shaft, an outer running member 36 permanently gear connected to the changespeed gear input shaft 24 and intermediate rollers 38, whereby relative speeds between the shafts 11F, 11R are limited.
