The present invention provides a technology to allow the operation of a heat pump unit at low outdoor temperatures without overloading a compressor in a hot water supply system for heating water in a tank using the heat pump unit. According to the present invention, the hot water supply system comprises: the tank; the heat pump unit to heat water in the tank; an outdoor temperature thermistor to detect the outdoor temperature; and a controller. The controller operates the heat pump unit to heat water in the tank to a target temperature when the outdoor temperature is high. The controller operates the heat pump unit to primarily heat water in the tank to be lower than a target temperature and to secondarily heat the water in the tank to the target temperature when the outdoor temperature is low. |
