891,451. Cooling cement clinker. SMIDTH & CO. A.S., F. L. Sept. 27, 1960, No. 33163/60. Class 51 (2). In apparatus for reducing and cooling material, particularly cement clinker, before discharge from a rotary kiln, reducing and cooling agents are supplied as conical sprays on to the surface of the material in the kiln, the reducing process preceding the cooling process. The reducing agent is supplied via a hose 11, pipe 7, and nozzle 13, and the cooling agent via a hose 17, pipe 4, and nozzle 18. The pipe 4 is coaxial with the pipe 7 and its ends are provided with seals 5 and 6. Handles 3 and 8 enable the pipes to be turned and moved longitudinally in a sleeve 2 of the furnace end casing 1. The arrangement is adjusted so that the clinker surface areas struck by reducing and cooling agents are close together but do not touch. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the pipe 4 is provided with two nozzles giving overlapping cooling sprays. The reducing agent may be an oil and the cooling agent water; and the pipes 4 and 7 may be provided with refractory linings. Specification 406,530 is referred to. |
