1. A compound comprising a squaric acid or croconic acid group as anchoring group, said compound having general formula 1 wherein n is 1 or 2, and D is selected from an alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, heteroalkyl, heteroaryl or heteroaralkyl substituent, each substituent being substituted or unsubstituted, wherein said compound is selected from one of formulas 2 to 12: wherein a=0-2, A1 and A2 each independently is selected from H, or any cyclic or acyclic substituted, or non-substituted alkyl, or heteroalkyl, or any straight or branched chain moiety of general formula —[(CXY)n1—(B1)n3—(CXY)n2—W]p—R, wherein, at each occurrence and independently, p=0-18, n1 and n2 are independently =0-18, n3=0-1, wherein W is selected from —O, —S, —N(R), —C(R)═N, —C(O)N(R)—, —Si(R)2, —OC(O), —C(O)O, —C(O), —S(O)2, —N(R)C(O), and —N(R)S(O)2, wherein X, Y, R each independently is selected from H or any straight or branched alkyl chain of general formula —CnH2n+1, or ester, carboxylic acid —COOR1, alkoxy —OR1, thiol —SR1, amine —NR12, nitro —NO2, cyano —CN, -isothiocyanato —SCN, -trifluoromethyl —CF3, or halogen F, Cl, Br, I, or substituted or unsubstituted aryl or heteroaryl, or ester, carboxylic acid, alkoxy, thiol, amine, nitro, cyano functionalized or halogenated straight or branched alkyl, wherein R1 is H or any alkyl or aryl or heteroaryl and n=0-18, wherein B1 is selected from the moieties shown in formula 13 wherein Z1 and Z2 each independently is selected from C(R)m1, S, O, S, Si(R)m2, N(R)m3, wherein m1 and m3 are independently =0-2, m2=1 or 2, and b=1-5, wherein X, Y and R are as defined above. |
