A repaired conductor 501 which is suitable for use in line inductors is disclosed herein. A line inductor having such a conductor, a train having such a conductor, and a method of repairing a conductor is also described. The repaired conductor 501 includes an original portion 502 having a first plurality of grains 503, 504 and a repaired portion 505 having a second plurality of grains 506, 507. The second plurality of grains 506, 507 has an average grain size which is less than or equal to the average grain size of the first plurality of grains 503, 504. The original portion 502 and/or repaired portion 505 may comprise an aluminium alloy, where the repaired portion 505 is repaired by welding such as butt, filler or tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding. The repaired portion 505 may be able to withstand a temperature of between 80 and 100 degrees Celsius. The welding gas flow rate may be between 10 and 12 litres per minute. Prior to repairing the conductor, the damaged surface is prepared, such as by cleaning the damaged surface using a grinding tool. |
