A portable reciprocating power saw has the vertical unbalance forces of the saw blade carrier 34 balanced by a normal rotating counterwieght 50 and the horizontal unbalance forces of the rotating counterweight are balanced by a reciprocating counterweight 54. The carrier 34 is reciprocated by a slider 42 which engages in a transverse crosshead 40 on the carrier and is journalled on a crank pin 44 integral with a bush 45 having a gear 46 meshed with a drive pinion 48 on a motor shaft 18. A slider 64 is also journalled on the crank pin and is engaged in a slot 58 in the counterweight 54 to reciprocate it in tracks 56. In a modification, the rotating and reciprocating counterweight are each in two parts fitted on opposite sides of the saw blade carrier and an elongated crank pin extends through a transverse crosshead or yoke on the carrier to drive the four counterweight parts. |
