<PICT:0950154/C3/1> Antimony is produced by heating antimony pentachloride with hydrogen and water-vapour at 700-900 DEG C. In the Figure hydrogen is supplied via safety valve 11, flowmeter 12 and liquid nitrogen trap 13 to the antimony pentachloride which is kept at 90-110 DEG C. An inert gas such as nitrogen or argon is used to entrain water-vapour which is kept at 60-80 DEG C. by bath 18. Antimony is collected in furnace 19 at a temperature of 400-500 DEG C. |
