The method involves regulating a main cartridge (9') of an ammonia injection device (8) by incrementing pressure (P) within the main cartridge until regulation pressure. The regulating step is realized if a regeneration instruction of a particulate filter (FAP) is valid and if an estimation value of remaining load of ammonia at an inner side of a starting cartridge (9) is greater than a threshold estimation value, where the injection device injects ammonia at an inner side of an exhaust line (2) of a heat engine (1). An independent claim is also included for an ammonia injection device.
