In a spinning frame, balloon separators 9 are horizontally movable from an operative position in which they lie between the spindles to an inward, inoperative position. In Fig. 1 the separators comprise plates having a rounded beading 10 which is slidably guided in indentations formed in flat sheets 13, 15 which may also provide covers for parts of the machine. Teeth are provided on the lower edge of each plate and are engaged by gears 24 on a shaft 25 so that all the separators may be retracted together; the linkage between the gear 24 and driving shaft 25 (see Fig. 3 not shown) is such that each separator may be individually shifted by hand to its inoperative position without disturbing the rest of the separators. In a further form the upper leg of each tubular frame is guided in a tube which is slotted at its underside to allow the plate to pass therethrough. Lower guide plates may be provided to steady the separators but if they are not provided the separators are supported by the upper guide tubes only and may be swung sideways to a limited extent to allow access to the associated spindle. In other forms the separators are guided by profiled rails while lever systems for retracting may be provided. |
