[Also in Division G4] In a force balance fluid-pressure computer or controller a capsule stack 6 receives an input signal representing a manual setting, a pressure, a temperature or an electrical analogue signal, and acts on a pivoted lever 80 which transmits the force via a pair of movable rollers 92 to a pivoted lever 31 the end of which constitutes a baffle which co-operates with a nozzle 103. The back pressure of the nozzle 103 is fed to a supplyexhaust relay 10 the output pressure signal from which is fed to a feedback capsule stack 5 which acts on a pivoted lever 121 which carries an adjustable member 122 which abuts the lever 31. The rollers 9 are adjustable by manually operable means along the length of the lever 31 and parallel to the pivotal axis of the lever 80. The output pressure signal of the relay 10 is proportional to the input pressure signal applied to the stack 6 and may be used for indicating, recording or control purposes. In another arrangement, Fig. 1, the rollers 9 are moved by a diaphragm motor 7 which receives a fluid-pressure signal. The output pressure signal in this case, is proportional to the product of the pressures applied to capsule stack 6 and diaphragm 7. If the roles of the capsule stacks 5 and 6 are reversed the output signal from the relay 10 is proportional to the quotient of the two input signals. If the output signal from relay 10 is fed back to capsule stack 6 and to the diaphragm motor 7 this output signal is proportional to the square root of the input signal applied to capsule stack 5. The pivot of lever 31 is constituted by horizontal and vertical flexible strips. The member 122 is a nut on a screwed rod carried by a cantilever member the pivot of which is a flexible strip. The pivot of cantilever 8 is also a flexible strip. The pivotable axis of the lever 8 is at right angles to the pivotal axis of the lever 31. The diaphragm motor 7 is connected to the rod 92 carrying the rollers 9 via a universal coupling and the rod 92 is guided by additional rollers 93.</p>
