PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus configured to prevent false detection of a pattern formed for density detection in updating data for gray-scale correction, to execute stable gray-scale correction.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus forms a line pattern of a predetermined width around a position irradiated with light from a toner density detector 11, as a density detection toner pattern Pt0, on an intermediate transfer belt 53. The density detection pattern Pt0 is formed by arranging a clip pattern (first pattern) Pt1 using an image pattern of toner concentration corresponding to a predetermined gray level, and a continuous gray-scale pattern (second pattern) Pt2 formed by changing the gray level of an image signal from the minimum value (white solid) to the maximum value (black solid) in a line. A gap is formed between the clip pattern Pt1 and the continuous gray-scale pattern Pt2. |
